Just a bite pleeeeeeez?

It's hard to eat breakfast with these two staring up at you pathetically.

I admit it. I have almost every gadget in the Joie De Vivre egg line. And Aaron just got me the egg cups. To seal the deal that I have a strange kitchen, note the eggs were cooked in our Egg Head egg cooker and the toast came out of a Hello Kitty toaster.

Lookit! Now they make Mr. Potato Masher and Korny corn holders too! I would say this attraction I have to kitchen utensils shaped the like food they are assisting in the destruction of... is somewhere along the lines of my fondness for animals dressed up as other animals.

Stewie's favorite place in the house is in the upstairs window. From there he can keep track of the entire neighborhood's comings and goings. With the ridges along the bottom though, it wasn't the most comfortable perch.

So with Joann's coupon in hand I set out to make him a kitty pillow. It is of soft kitty patterned fleece and has rice in the bottom so it settles over the ridges. I uploaded pictures of it's creation to my project gallery.

Now Stewie can spy on everyone in comfort.

One day Kenn brought guacamole and a bowl of crunchy, puffy star things for lunch. They were so good I wanted to make some, but he said they were from Mexico. Shruti to the rescue... she informed me that they had a similiar thing called Fryums at the Indian food store.

I got a bag and fried them up. They start off looking like little bits of pasta and then puff up to three times their size in hot oil. It was exciting! Like the opposite of shrinky dinks!

Aaron came home from NYC on Friday night with Max Brenner goodies in hand. Lucky for him. Without chocolate offerings he may not have lived to see another day.

Today we watched as our good friends Matt and Dre tied the knot. I wish them all the joy in their new life together.

As usual with our crew, there were the party hijinks to be had during the reception... and I took pictures. Photos of the wedding and the party are up on My Gallery.

I just got this tshirt at Target. OK so it was off the Halloween rack... but I thought... "What the heck!?" and wore it to work today. I think it's cool.

Aaron is in NYC this week for Naval Reserve training and guess where he went. Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar.

He has been sending me phone pics of chocolate shakes and chocolate fondue. Too cruel.

Aaron and I have several piggy banks filled with change from my coin purse and his jean pockets. We haven't done anything with the money because we haven't felt like stuffing the coins into those paper tubes or forking over a percentage of it by using a coin counting vending machine.

Then Aaron noticed (probably because the sign was at the top of the machine and he is so tall) that at the Coinstar machine, you can get an iTunes card with no percentage taken off. Woo-hooo! There are Starbucks and other cards too!

We are so busting into our piggy banks this weekend.

I love my VW Bug... don't get me wrong... but the VW Rabbits sure are cute too. I especially love the logo.

If you go to the Rabbit website and click on "souvenirs", you can get VW Rabbit desktop pictures.

There are also cute rabbit t-shirts for sale and in case you really needed one, mini replicas of "fast".

Oscar has been tagged by Gizmo and Gadget. Here are the rules:

List 5 weird things about yourself or your pets. Tag 5 friends and list them. Then, those people need to write on their blogs about 5 weird things, and state the rules, and tag 5 more people. Don’t forget to let the people you tag know by posting a comment on their blog!

1) Oscar's favorite treat is baby carrots. He will do anything for a little orange stick of veggie love.
2) Oscar hides treats he can't finish under his bed cushion.
3) Oscar hates to get his feet wet.
4) He won't admit it but Oscar lets Stewie lick his head when he thinks no one is around.
5) Aaron and I really like how Oscar smells. It is a distinct "pug smell". Once Joel was at our house, picked Oscar up and sniffed him, then declared "Yep! He's a pug!"

I’m tagging:

1. Woody
2. Ike, Kea and Molly
3. Molly and Murphy
4. Tina
5. Murphy and Molasses

I don't think it has to be just pugs, so I included two big dogs, two cats and figured Tina can write about Lauren... because she does some weird stuff... like her new grunting sound.

Wegmans does it again.

I was standing in line with Aaron when I spotted these Incrediburgers by their pizza shop.

An Incrediburger is a cheeseburger baked inside pizza dough. You can get a deluxe or classic version.

I NEED ONE! It's brilliant. And I like to say the name... Incrediburger.

Aaron and I have started a new Friday morning routine of going out for coffee together before heading to the office/class. Yesterday while lounging outside of Starry Nites Cafe I discovered some bad news and some good news. Bad news - Edibles will be closed for awhile due to a kitchen fire. I got a picture of the offending stove. Good news - there will be a new store opening soon on University. Interesting morning.

I have been looking for a set of wood salad bowls and finally got this yard sale find. There is a serving bowl, four salad bowls and the tossers.

I was a little concerned about caring for them so I looked it up. There are things to be aware of... not soaking it for more than 10 minutes and not leaving metal in a wet bowl.

Now I am looking forward to making a big salad!

Our zucchini crop started off with a bang. I had plans for baking loaves of zucchini bread, leaving zukes on porches and taking zukes to my hairdresser... then all of a sudden, the vines rotted, dried up and died. I was shocked. Then I heard it wasn't just us. The heavy rains and scorching heat created vegetable "carnage" everywhere.

The eggplants however are doing splendidly, so I am realigning my focus on future eggplant parmesean and eggplant sandwiches.

Office Mythbusters

Tina locked her keys in her car the other morning. (at this point she would want me to tell you that it wasn't her fault... her keychain lanyard got caught on something and pulled them out of her bag) Anyhoo... we were discussing it at lunch and Andy said he had heard that if someone had your spare key they could call you on your cell phone, press the unlock button while holding the key next to their phone and by you holding your cell phone up to your car, it would unlock.

We went from "No way!" to "Maybe?" to "It would be so cool!" Pace makers can be set by a tone played over the phone so why not? Imagine if you recorded it on your phone and you would always have a spare! I think I was operating not so much on how it could possibly work, but on how badly I wanted it to work.

So at lunch today we trooped out to the parking lot to test it. We tried it on Andy's truck and Shruti's VW. Nothing. It - so - does - not - work. We were crushed. And feeling a little silly we didn't look it up first. Myth. Myth. Myth. Busted.

Recently, I have been watching the TV series, Firefly. It's no longer on the air but after recommendations from Sarah and Lisa I got the DVD's from Netflix. The movie, Serenity, that came out this past year was based on the show.

When I first watched it, I thought Captain Mel looked so familiar. I thought... "Oh! That's Justine Bateman's brother!" *Google* Nope... it's not Jason Bateman. Then I thought "Oh! That's the guy that's dating Rebecca Romijn (no longer Stamos). *Google* Huh-uh. It's not Jerry O'Connell. Finally then I got it... he was Joey Bucchanan from One Life to Live (hey you gotta watch something in college between classes) and the boyfriend of the girl in Two Guys, a Girl and Pizza Place. Nathan Fillion. Whew!

But honestly... look at the three of them. Can you see how I was confused? Umm... right?

I am really excited to share a Party Theme Page I did for TLC for their Dinner Takes All party guide. My party guide is for my annual Academy Awards party. Who knew all those years of taking pictures at my parties would come in handy?!

It was a lot of fun and it's so cool to see it there with the other party themes.

Inspired by all my mom's thrifted finds, Aaron and I stopped at a few yardsales this weekend. My big win was this Zanzibar Italian expresso maker. It was marked $5 but since the lady had no idea how to use it she gave it to me for 25¢.

It is a "Vesuvio" brewer and I found out online how to use it.

Out in Pittsford there is a huge field of sunflowers that blooms in August every summer. This year we drove out and took some pictures. It is truly sunflowers as far as the eye can see.

The sunflowers were swarming with bees, but they were all drunk on pollen and could care less about us. I took a bunch of pictures and you can see them here.

Friday, August 11, 2006

One more great thrifted find by my mom for this week. She got me these old food tins. I don't actually put food in them, I have them sitting on the tops of my cupboards.

Thursday, August 10, 2006

Last night Guster played at the High Falls Festival Site. Guster is Tina and I's favorite band. We go way back. We are talking marshmallow peeps here.

It was a great show as always... I posted pics and video on My Gallery page.

Wednesday, August 9, 2006

I was browsing a vintage group on Flickr and spotted this red breadbox. I thought it looked familiar. Then I realized I had the matching canisters in my cupboard. Another hand me down from my mom.

The tea one got a little too close to the stove and the corner melted a little. Whups.

Tuesday, August 8, 2006

This is going to be thriftin' week at ljcfyi. Here some more finds of my mom's. She got me a Pyrex Cinderella Round Bake Set and a butter dish in Butterfly Gold.

If you like Pyrex (and perhaps have toured the Corning Museum with one eye out for it like I did) then you will love this site that lists all the patterns of Pyrex cooking and serving ware.

Monday, August 7, 2006

My mom is the queen of yard sales. She can find anything. I asked her to keep an eye out for the 1969 Betty Crocker's Cookbook she used when I was growing up and she found one... plus these other cookbooks.

Of course I left the one I really wanted... the big red 1969 version at my parents' house so I only have these four to use 'til I go home again.

Tina and I were at Target staring at the new Herbal Essences hair products... admiring the new packaging, sniffing the yummy scents and questioning whether our bathrooms could hold yet more product, when I spotted Shimmery Nights Shimmer Fragrance Mist (not to be found on their website... mmmm secret). Oooooo. The back said it contained diamond dust and champagne. PFFFFT! Get out of here! That's crazy! But no... I read the ingredients and sure enough... champagne and diamond powder! ON - YOUR - HEAD!

And into the cart it went...

Going to the Park Ave Fest is a highlight of summer in Rochester. Mmmmm... festival food. We had Lauren with us this year and she was wide eyed the entire time.

More pictures of our afternoon on My Gallery.

I love trays. I'd like to put everything in the house on a tray. Nice and tidy.

Thursday, August 3, 2006

Shruti just informed me of a spot in NYC that I am adding to my list of "must visit".

Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar features chocolate foods and drinks. They even use specially designed cups for their drinks. Hug Mug is shaped for holding cozily in two hands. Suckao has a candle underneath to melt the thick drinking chocolate it holds. Alice is "the ultimate milkshake cup".

I can hardly look at these without getting the chocolate shakes. Must - have - chocolate!

There seem to be a lot of missing pets in my neighborhood lately. I feel so bad for them.

The signs are interesting to read though. Pepper's owners added at the last minute that he wasn't completely devoid of a tail... he just had "almost" no tail. The kitty's owners scribbed in "with mustache" after the fact too. All kittys I see wandering around now are scrutinized for facial hair.

I took Oscar out to see the signs and warned him "See! See what happens when you run off! You will be cold and lonely and scared!" I think it made an impression.
