concerts

This evening we hit up two concerts... Cherry Poppin' Daddies at the Party in the Park and Michelle Shocked at Big City Summer Fest. We probably would not have thought to go to Michelle's concert but Joel is a toe tappin, finger snappin' Shocked groupie with contagious enthusiasm.

butter potatoes

Of course one of my favorite things about the Party in the Park concerts is getting the Salt Potatoes. But really... look close... don't you think they should be called Butter Potatoes? Oh happy day!

(I had never had Salt Potatoes until I moved to Rochester... apparently they are a regional thing)

My grandfather was a potato farmer an hour south of here, and I always have salt potatoes at festivals and think of him. :)

Nice running into you guys earlier! I hope you got some good stuff...

Ah, I almost forgot about salt potatoes!!! When I first saw them i thought it was gulab jamun (a really sweet sugar-coated Indian dessert!)!

Oh they're not that regional... I mean, I'm from NY too, near Albany, and we eat them here, but when I was in VA and FL they had them as well. Maybe it's just an "East Coast Thang" lol

melissa - yeah... we managed to pick a couple of things!

lara - the wikipedia said they started in Syracuse, NY and I read elsewhere that they are catching on across the country.

I like to roast new potatoes in a paste made with a little olive oil mixed with a lot of kosher salt. You roast them at 400-450 and they get a great skin on them. If you have fresh rosemary in your garden, you can throw a couple of branches in the roasting pan. The potatoes are good warm or room temp. YUM YUM YUM.

Well I'm in Washington state, and this is the first I've heard of them...hopefully they'll catch on here soon! It looks like a delightful bowl of potatoes.

Oh MAN, I want some of those potatoes. (And for what its worth, I'd never seen/heard of them despite growing up in Bridgeport, CT, and I now live in NYC. I've also been to The Big E (huge 2-week long "state" fair for all of New England which is pretty much just an excuse to eat all day.)

Last year friends of ours who are from upstate NY made salt potatoes and something like 'Fire Station Chicken' for us. They said all the fire stations made that meal as a fund raiser or something. It was really good!
