Mmm yogurt

I am not a yogurt fan. I try to eat it for the calcium, but I don't enjoy it. Until I found Liberte Mediterranee at Wegmans. It is so smooth and creamy and not tart - more like the yogurt I have had in Europe. I can't help but hum Mmmm Mmmm when I eat it... especially the coconut. Now I'm a yogurt fan!

Dutch Tub

As much as I love simmering away in a hot tub I have never considered getting one. Until I saw the Dutch Tub. Not to be confused with a Dutch Oven, this is a "hot tub" that is heated by burning wood.

They are so cute, they even come in pink.

Pet of the Week

Look at that face! You know he is a straight talker and you can count on him.

Samson #10047039

Samson is a 1-year-old male cat who was brought to Lollypop Farm because his owner was moving and could not take him along. Samson has lived with other cats and with children before, and he got along with everyone. He's a playful kitty! Samson is currently living in one our catteries (multiple-cat housing areas) and doing well there. He likes people, but he enjoys his time alone too. Samson would love to meet you!

Maple Weekend

It's Maple Weekend once again. We like to stop at Cuba Cheese Shoppe on the way to sample cheese and stock up.

At Spragues Maple Farm we filled up on all you can eat pancakes and fresh maple syrup.

No trip to a farm is compete without a wagon ride.

We learned how maple syrup is made (in big shiny vats).

We had maple syrup on snow, kinda like something from Little House on the Prarie.

And we got some delectable maple cotton candy.

Dessert idea - Finkberry

I had a craving the other evening for Pinkberry, but of course we don't have a Pinkberry in Rochester. So Aaron got a tub of vanilla frozen yogurt and some fruit. After running the frozen yogurt through our soft serve mixer, it was so close to Pinkberry I called it Finkberry (faux Pinkberry)

We were getting together with Tina, Shruti and Vishal for dinner and we were supposed to bring dessert so I decided to make a complete Finkberry experience. I created a selection of berries, fruit and one of the most fun toppings at the real Pinkberry... Captain Crunch.

Smooshing the frozen yogurt through the soft serve mixer is key to recreating the Pinkberry effect.

Everyone agreed that Finkberry is as close as you can get to Pinkberry.

Shiny Toy Guns

When Aaron and I were at Stratton we were so excited to find out that Shiny Toy Guns were playing a concert at the Burton US Open.

We saw them open for All American Rejects and have been fans ever since. I was really happy when they played one of my favs, Major Tom.

We hustled over to the concert as fast as we could and were in the front row! It was the closest and best spot I have ever had at a concert and probably will ever have again.

Their singer, Sisely Treasure had rainbow streaks in her hair and wore sparkly tights... thus she is awesome.

Pet of the Week

Can you lick your nose with your own tongue? No? Well Yoda can! Yoda has skillz.

Yoda #1051654

Yoda is a 9-year-old male rat terrier mix who was returned to Lollypop Farm after a few years with an owner because her landlord did not allow pets. Yoda is definitely a people dog, and he loves attention. We’re recommending that he meet any dogs in the household before adoption to make sure that everyone will be buddies. We think he would be happiest in a home without children under 12. Yoda is eligible for our Seniors-for-Seniors program, so adopters age 60 and older can take him home free of charge!

Bubble Umbrella

I don't like to get wet when I'm not supposed to be. I would make a good cat. Expecting a rainy spring season, I was prepping my rain boots and rain coat. But I found my umbrella lacking. I found this one at Target for a very good price. And I love the design... it offers so much more protection, is more windproof and I can see where I'm going when I use it. Plus I love the name - bubble umbrella. Win, win, win.

Domo in Stratton, VT

Domo was happy we didn't leave him at home this time when we went to Stratton.

Welcome!

He is a bit of a poser. That is not his board.

Look away. Tragic Domo snatching.

Uh oh. Domo was just the appetizer.

Comments fixed

I was wondering why I wasn't getting any comments since I migrated my blog - so I went to test it and I saw that the comment entry info was getting cut off. I have fixed so now you can comment away! Hang in there! This migration has been bumpy but it's getting there!

Halfpipe

Aaron and I got some cool shots today at the mens and womens halfpipe finals at the Burton US Open, but my feet are no longer speaking to me.

Burton US Open

I am in Stratton, VT for the Burton US Open for work and Aaron was able to come with me.

The view from "not even the very tippy top of the mountain" where the halfpipe was located was amazing.

I was busy blogging and tweeting and trying to catch some of the snowboarders in action in videos and photos.

Catching some air.

Back in the game

Yahoo! I've migrated my blog with all posts back to September 2000 intact AND now my images are back. Well, I know HOW to fix my images, I've only updated March so far.

Broken

You may notice that my blog is looking funny today. It's going through some migration pains. For ten years I have had the page ljcfyi.com and published my blog from blogger via ftp to a spot on that page. A couple months ago blogger announced that they would no longer support ftp and I would have to migrate my blog.

So last night I started migrating my blog. Everything seemed to go smoothly - all most posts dating back to September 2000 are there. But my images aren't. Apparently when you host on blogger and use a custom domain the links to images are broken. I didn't think this would happen because I always put the full url with my image code but I guess I don't understand how that all works. I am trying to use the work around of a missing files host... but that doesn't seem to be working. *sigh* I will keep plugging away at it and hopefully there will be a new and improved ljcblog here soon!

Until then new posts are using images from Flickr so it's not completely barren here!

Corned Beef - Happy St. Patty's Day!

Mmmm traditional corned beef supper for St Pattys

I have always wanted to make corned beef on St. Patrick's Day. Wegmans had handy dandy packages of beef with the spices packed with them so we gave it a try.

Pardon the horrible phone pic of my plate. It did take awhile to cook, so by the time we ate it was too dark and I was too hungry to take proper photo. I wasn't disapointed though - it was great!

Canadian Squirrels

I know I have mentioned this before on my blog but I still can't get over the fact that the squirrels in Canada are black. How did that happen? How come none of them have migrated down to Rochester?

Of course, they are just as chubby and cute as the ones in our backyard. We stood and took pictures and video of this fella gnawing on a peanut for quite awhile.

King Tut. Not so much.

Last month we saw billboards around Rochester advertising a King Tut exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Aaron got us tickets for Valentines Day but because of snow we couldn't go until this weekend.

Despite taglines like "King Tut returns to the Art Gallery of Ontario!" King Tut was nowhere to be found. There was lot's of King Tut's stuff, items from the outer chambers of Tut's tomb, like King Tut's bed, King Tut's sandals and statues of King Tut. There were also statues of other pharohs and even an ancient Egyptian toilet seat (no joking) but no King Tut. No Tut mask, no Tut coffin and no Tut mummy.

We heard other couples asking where King Tut was and heard that King Tut is permanently on display in Cairo. I totally understand that, in fact I probably should have realized it, but it really sounded like he would be there and I'm kind of surprised it wasn't more clear and we were pretty disappointed. The exhibit was interesting, I just wish I would have had different expectations. King Tut bummer.

Pet of the Week

What a cutie! I love that her one ear is bigger than the other. Looks like she is always saying "Eh? What's that you say?"

Ivy #9589773

Ivy is a 7-year-old female cat who was brought to Lollypop Farm with nine other cats -- they had all been abandoned. She is a beautiful calico who was born with one ear a lot smaller than the other. Her hearing is just fine, though! She enjoys spending time with people, but she likes her alone time, too. Ivy likes other cats as well as dogs, but she can be nervous around children. She is eligible for our Seniors-for-Seniors program, so adopters age 60 and older can take her home free of charge!

Frosted Cupcakery

When I was in LA, I hauled down the street with my coworkers to check out a cupcake cafe that was spotted. It turned out to be Frosted Cupcakery.

I loved the shop - the colors are so cute, brown, sky blue and orange. And the cupcakes were creative and delicious! I would definitely go back.
