Happy Birthday Aaron

What Aaron really wanted for his birthday this year was a ukulele. So that is what we got him. Oscar and Hugo just think it's a pug-sized guitar.

I attibute all this to Eddie Vedder. His latest album, Ukulele Songs, is what I think inspired this new interest.

Pet of the Week

The little black cat with the heart of gold! Dude! Where's my cat?!

Pet of the Week Dude #13977787

Dude is an adorable 6.5-month-old male cat with golden eyes and a little white bib. He was found as a stray and brought to Lollypop Farm in the hopes he would find a loving forever home. He has super soft black fur with little white hairs interlaced throughout giving him a smoky look. He is quite the mushmallow…he loves to stretch out and get lots of cuddles. He also loves to play with his toys. Dude is super gentle and has a real big purr. Did you know black cats are less likely to be adopted because of the color of their fur? While his fur may be black, this little cutie is pure gold! Dude can’t wait to meet you!

Molly, the dog from last week, is still waiting to be adopted.

WXXI & my favorite t-shirt

Yesterday I was very excited to be a guest on Bob Smith's WXXI radio show 1370 Connection. I was on the show with Mark Frisk to talk about business and social media in lieu of the upcoming Social Media and Communications Symposium at RIT on Thursday.

It was my first time on WXXI so I wore the NPR shirt Aaron got me for my birthday specially. I am a big NPR fan - it's the first thing I turn on in the morning. I listen on the way to work and the way home, sometimes sitting in the office parking lot or my driveway to hear the end of story "Driveway Moment". I have radios in the kitchen, living room and bedroom so I can listen at home. I frequently catch stories I miss on the iPad NPR app. So as you can see, being an NPR geek this is one of my favorite t-shirts.

Apparently it's Justin Timberlake's too - check out this hiliarious article "Ten Speculative Reasons Justin Timberlake Might Be Wearing This NPR T-Shirt"

Apple season

Last weekend I went to the Apple Farm with Aprille and Joel and Aprille's mom. We rode the wagon, ate doughnuts, drank cider... the whole nine yards.

I picked a big bag of MacIntosh apples and last night I made them into some applesauce. Yum. Nothing like some late night canning.

Barktober Fest 2011

Today was Barktober Fest and the pugs rocked it! Oscar and Hugo raised $350 for Lollypop Farm. A huge thanks to everyone that sponsored them.

They had a great time - pug cluster!

They really enjoyed meeting all the other dogs - inspecting a beagle.

I had two tired pugs on my hands when we got home - hello Frenchie!

They are such good walkers!

And a big thanks to Tina who helped wrangle the pugs during the walk!

Oscar and Hugo even made it onto 13 WHAM News!

Grape Fest

Today I went to the Naples Grape Fest with Aprille and Joel. Oh the smell of grapes!

All things grape! Grape juice, grape cotton candy and grape candy apples. Grape pies are the big hit though. I never heard of a grape pie until I moved to Rochester - near the Finger Lakes. They are so good - I don't know why they aren't more widespread.

I brought home a grape pie...

And a chicken pot pie to enjoy at home.

Pug plea

I didn't wan't to do it but I have no choice. We haven't reached our fund raising goal for the Barktober Fest on Saturday yet so now I have to do it.

I'm posting a sad photo of two pathetic looking pugs.

Hoo boy. There it is. Look into those gloomy little faces and hear their plea - "Please sponsor us - we don't want to get out of bed early for no good reason."

Harsh, I know - but drastic times call for drastic measures.

UPDATE: Yay! It worked! We reached our goal. If you would still like to sponsor us though it would be appreciated.

Pet of the Week

I love the the little bit of pink you can see at the end of her snout.

PET OF THE WEEK Molly #13490831

Molly is a 4-year-old Retriever mix who is happy to see the end of the summer! In July, she was found as a stray in Lima and brought to Lollypop Farm. After arriving at Lollypop Farm she gave birth! Molly and her puppies went into foster care while the puppies were nursing. Now that she knows her puppies have been adopted into good homes she is ready to find her own loving forever home. Molly is a great dog who is eager to please and responds well to treats and praise. She can use some help learning how to walk on a leash and might benefit from training classes. Training classes are a wonderful way to build your relationship with your dog, and you will receive a discount on your first course with Molly. Come out and meet this nice girl…she can’t wait to find a good home where she is loved and well cared for!

Amber, the cat from last week was adopted!

Hey Shuga! Organic Sugar Cane Syrup

One of the purchases I made at Greentopia was Hey Shuga! - an all natural, organic sugar cane syrup and the company is located right here in Rochester.

I drink a lot of hot tea and that involves a lot of stirring and stirring to disolve my sugar cubes. I also like to make iced tea in the summer and for that I make simple syrup. I think Hey Shuga will be a good subsititute. i am thinking it would be perfect for iced coffee too... especially since they are coming out with flavored versions like vanilla and hazelnut.

Sponsor us for Barktober Fest Charity Walk

Oscar and Hugo are professional walkers. It is what they do best. After eating and sleeping that is.

They are going to put their walking skills to good use next Saturday at Lollypop Farm's Barktober Fest.

Oscar and Hugo are going to do the charity walk to raise money to help Lollypop Farm.

Please visit our fundraising page and pledge what you can for our walk! The walk is on the 24th and we have a goal of $300.

Zombie Walk for Sample Soap

Sample Soap held a zombie walk today. Drop off sample size toiletries and get made up as a zombie. I just agot a small wound while Aprille went all out.

Sample Soap collects sample sized toiletries and distributes it to those in need.

It was a great opportunity to raise awareness about Sample Soap and also to be undead for a day.

These folks were serious zombies.

They were like professional zombies.

They made us look like amateur zombies.

I do what I can to try and be green - reusable bags, composter, rain barrel. So I was really excited to hear Rochester was hosting Greentopia - a festival for sustainable living!

They were raising funds to make the bridge over High Falls into a green park like the High Line in NYC.

There were interesting displays like this green roof demo, live bands, food (Sammich truck!) and vendors.

There were QR codes with information about Rochester Parks and I discovered that a dog park is being added to Ellison Park! Oscar and Hugo will be thrilled!

Cat-to-School Special Adopt-a-thon

Where do you put 500 cats? You can't stack them! There are 500 cats at Lollypop farm and they need to go home with someone. Because you can't stack cats, Rochester!

During Lollypop Farm's Cat-to-School Special on Friday, September 16, and Saturday, September 17, all cats who are one year and older will be completely free of charge at all four of our adoption centers during regular hours. Cats younger than one year will be available to adopt for just $99.

They currently have almost 500 homeless cats and kittens in our care, so new homes are urgently needed. This is the perfect time to add a feline friend to your household.

Pet of the Week

Everyone needs a cat that can look at you like "Are you really wearing THOSE shoes with that outfit?!"

Amber #13807118

Amber is a sleek 2-year-old cat with a beautiful silvery gray fur coat. She was found with her two kittens and brought to Lollypop Farm in the hopes they would all find loving forever homes. Amber’s kittens have been adopted, so now it’s her turn! She’s a very sweet and loving girl. Amber is a quiet cat who loves to have her head scratched. Her gentle kneading shows how much she loves the attention. Please consider adopting Amber and giving her a fresh start. She will make a wonderful companion…you’ll wonder how you ever managed without her!

Ziggy, the dog from last week is still waiting to be adopted.

TIFF 2011

This year it was just the gals at the Toronto Film Festival. There was the usual waiting in line.

And enjoyment of Toronto food.

There was only one Q&A for our movies - The Moth Diaries.

I would have like to asked Scott Speedman about the next Underworld but that seemed out of context.

Other than that Q&A the only other celeb we saw out and about was Geoffrey Rush. We saw more stars on cupcakes than in person this year.

As for the movies we had two great ones, two good ones and one we walked away from confused.

Dark Horse - great acting. great filming. but wha????

The Oranges - some uncomfortable parts (no don't do that!!! awwww!) but charming and great cast (House!)- one of our favs this year

The Moth Diaries - not as scary as we expected but not bad

Like Crazy - good story but shot with shaky camera so I had to stare at the exit sign and watch it out of the corner of my eye so I wouldn't get motion sickness

Butter - so cute and so amazing they made a movie about butter carvers. our other fav this year.

Clothesline Festival

Every year the Clothesline Festival falls on the weekend we go to the Toronto Film Festival. This year Tina and I are going to Toronto during the week so I was able to go to the Clothesline Festival.

I was thrilled to see so many crafty artisians. Nancy Topolski's booth was the cutest. I have seen some of her work in a shop in Toronto!

I got this sweet squirrel print from Joe Guy. Aaron will love the top hat and monacle.

I also got one of these silverware flowers from the Salvage Gallery. Love the reuse!

I'm so glad I got to go. Hope it's not another 10 years before I go again!

10 Years later

My blog has been around long enough that I can look back on what I posted on 9/11 when the terrorists attacked. I didn't write much. There was a lot of confusion and no one was really sure what happened. Hard to believe it's been 10 years already. Today passed by quietly... a day to remember, to honor and to be thankful.
