Successful craft show & a night out at Nox

What a crazy busy weekend! Tina and I had a table at the Mayday! Underground Crafts and Arts Market at Village Gate.

It went from 10am to 5pm both Saturday and today so our dogs were barking by the end of it. But it was totally worth it! We still get giggly when we see our little biz names, Janda Made and Sweet & Cute in writing.

I think this was our busiest show yet! There was a constant flow of shoppers stopping by.

Aaron and I had a new lamp design at the show - a large double steampunk lamp. Sold!

And I sold out of all my bird feeders in the first two hours of the first day so I had to make more Saturday night. I ran out of the usual galvanized bottoms and had to use these plastic ones, but I think they look cute with colored pan lids.

In all I sold nine bird feeders, five alien robot lamps and two of the large steampunk lamps!

Tina sold out of her coffee syrup and didn't have too many of her other goodies to pack up either.

Best of all we got to hang out and catch up all weekend. : )

Aaron came tonight to help me pack up the table and then we went to Nox at Village Gate for some comfort food to celebrate. It is the coolest spot. It is decorated in a sort of theme that a book reading, sci fi loving, geekish type might love. There are paintings of Tardis and menu items named Admiral Ackbar’s Last Stand. Nox is the name of the Greek goddess of night which is fitting because it's a great spot to hang out in the evening.

#rocfallfarmtour - Red Jacket Orchards Farm Store

I guess I wasn't done with leaf peeping because we went out again today.

We went for a Sunday drive in the Finger Lakes.

First I wanted to get a grape pie in Naples since we missed the Grape Festival and then visit the Red Jacket Orchards Farm Store.

I think this qualifies as a stop on the #rocfallfarmtour. They certainly have apples.

And some fantastic cider. Along with more juice varities you can shake a stick at.

I particularly enjoyed the juice sampling station. *glug glug*

They didn't have pumpkins or donuts but there wer other interesting items like this Korean marinade. We also picked up some fall flower honey.

The grape apple juice was on sale, so I had to get one of those! Red Jacket is one of my favorite juices!

Schutt's Cider Mill

Continuing with my Rochester farm markets & mills visits, next up we have Schutt's Cider Mill. I'm not sure if they pronounce it "shoots" or "shuts". I've been thinking about it too much so I need to ask them next time we are there.

Here is a review of what we found...

#1 Cider - Schutt's makes their own cider and on this particular day it was a blend that included my favorite apple - honeycrisp. That was a big plus in my book right off the bat.

#2 Donuts - Schutt's didn't call their donuts "cider donuts" but rather fried cakes. I have to say I liked Herman's donuts better but Schutt's offered both glazed and cinnamon sugar which was a bonus. They still went down the cake hole rather easily.

#3 Pumpkins - There were rows of pumpkins outside to choose from and I added this little one to my autumn collection that is growing on our kitchen table.

#4 - There were lots and lots of apples to choose from. I don't think they have u-pick but there were some interesting varieties available. There were a couple that were "experimental"! That sounds exciting - experimental apples.

So Schutt's had all the fall basics I was looking for. The basics and then so much more!

I got really excited by the other goodies Schutt's had in their market. I was darting around like a squirrel high on life. Ironically one of the first things I saw were these chestnuts. For roasting by an open fire.

Decorative Indian corn (or as Aaron calls it, Squirrel Food).

More jams and jellies than you can shake a stick at.

Schutt's offers lots of food items and gifts. And they are displayed on vintage appliances like old stoves and fridges. The entire market is decorated with antique crocks and bottles. Right up my alley!

I almost forgot the best part... they have a rabbit out front. I can't believe I didn't get a picture of him.

After we got home I saw a bunch of comments on Facebook that we should try Schutt's apple frosty. They said it's a combination of an apple slushy and a Wendy's Frosty. Obviously we have to go back asap.

SCHUTT'S UPDATE

We went back to Schutts with my friend Liz so we could try the apple frosty we heard so much about.

The apple frosty is a delightful combo of soft serve ice cream and an apple cider slush. It's very tasty... even if it did give me brain freeze.

While were there we popped into Blue Toad for a cider tasting.

Blue Toad uses Schutt's apples for their cider. I only had a small taste, one of the summer ciders - very fresh and light.

Guilt marketing appreciated by pugs - Hungry Hound Beerscuits

I was walking around the Flour City Brew Fest carefree until I happened upon this sign at the Hungry Hound Beerscuits table. Sure enough, I instantly felt guilty about the two pugs at home, wondering where we were. I picked a bag of beerscuits for them. Clever marketing.

Oscar and Hugo were very glad we didn't come home empty handed. There isn't any beer in beerscuits. Beerscuits are made with recycled barley brewers grain. Plus they are made by hand locally in Conklin, NY. What ever it is about these treats, they were a hit with these pugs.

The boys loved them! They passed the sniff test. Some treats get the "sniff sniff no thanks" reaction. These Hungry Hound Beerscuits got "sniff sniff CHOMP".

Cold brew options

I have a pretty good method for making cold brew coffee, so I didn't really need this can of Grady's Cold Brew, but the can totally sold me.

You can also get the concentrate in a bottles or sign up for a coffee club to keep a steady stream of caffiene shipped to your home.

Look at these instruction illustrations on the can! So good.

Speaking of liquid cold brew concentrate in a bottle I found this Muddy Waters Cold Brew at Wegmans. It is made right here in Rochester! It's pretty good too. It's a nice option with the #shoplocal bonus.

I am curious if they are affiliated with the Muddy Waters Coffee House that used to be in the South Wedge, but I haven't figured that out yet.

They are on Facebook and Twitter.

Just Juice 4 Life

I am a big juice fan. But sometimes I don't feel like cleaning my juicer, in which case I am a fan of Just Juice 4 Life. This lil juice bar got even better with a move to University Ave. Now there is lots of parking and it's so easy to stop in to grab a juice.

Like how we stopped for this summer refresher - Melonade, a combo of watermelon, cucumber, pear, and lemon.

They make smoothies too and can be found at the Brighton Market on Sundays.

Corn on the Cob Seasoning

I love corn on the cob. I know I say I love a lot of things, but I really, really love corn on the cob. I could eat it every day of the summer.

Mexical Grilled Corn is one of my new faves.

I am also good with just butter and seasoning. Not just plain salt for me. It has to be Janes Crazy Mixed-Up Salt or Lime Salt.

The last time we stopped in at Stuart's Spices, I guess I stood staring at the Corn on Cob Seasoning a smidge too long because someone jumped in and insisited I take a sample. Well, twist my arm.

We tried it last night on some grilled corn and now I need to go back to get a shaker of it. Nomnomnom.

Spicy!

I love Janes Crazy Mixed-up Salt but Wegmans was out of it so we decided to stop in at the local Stuart's Spices in South Wedge. Several friends had recommended it but we had never been before.

Stuart's Spices has been in business since 1992 and carries over 200 spices and seasonings most of which are ground and mixed on site.

They were very helpful and had us sampling lots of spices but I was set of getting some Crazy Salt and the Rochester Pepper Blend.

Lularoe leggings - buttery soft

One of our local clothing stores, Peppermint, carries a line of clothes called Lularoe. I just got a pair of the leggings and they - are - as - soft - as - buttah. I spent the day at work telling my friends at work "Touch my leg. No, no. Pet it. SOFT RIGHT?!"

Waffles lead to waffles.

We stopped in at Pour Coffee Parlor and got some waffles. I really like the latte with maple syrup. We have been to Pour for the coffee a few times but not the waffles. The problem with waffles is then you want more waffles.

So Aaron made us waffles. Mmmm... waffles by the fire.

Scratch Bake Shop

There is a new bakery in town. On Park Ave, west of Goodman, you will find a little store front that now houses Scratch Bake Shop.

It was maddening following their delicious looking posts on Instagram up until they opened. Their creations are some of the most gorgeous baked goods I've seen. The shop is really cute, they are super helpful when you visit and the peanut butter cookie sandwiches are so good... they didn't last to be photographed.

Local tees

I liked my Maker's Faire t-shirt from Tiny Fish so much when I spied a Tiny Fish t-shirt at Pour Coffee Parlor. Not only are they cute and comfy, but I like supporting local biz.

I think the Scratch Bakeshop "tough cookies" shirt is next on my list.

Atlas Eats

Next on my list of "MUST TRY" spots... after Fuego, was Atlas Eats. The minute I stepped inside, I wondered what took me so long. It's it a bit of an odd spot. A wee business building in the middle of a residential area. The inside is charming with globes and other vintage decor. Really they had me when I spied the jars of kimchee on the counter.

They have a really interesting brunch menu and I went for the kimchee pancakes. Unexpected and tasty.

I ate a good bit of Aaron's bisquits and gravy too. Lots of flavor.

Fuego coffee

We are lucky to have a lot of nice coffee cafe choices in Rochester. I've seen a lot of people check into Fuego so Aaron and I decided to stop in for a cuppa. It's a cozy little place, and they are mad serious about their coffee. I got a cinnamon chipotle mocha and it had me zipping around the rest of the day. Aaron found this video about the owners of Fuego... and it makes me like their coffee even more.

Tiny Fish Printing

After following them on Instagram for some time, I finally got to meet the Tiny Fish Printing folks at Makers Faire in November. I liked their set up with the on-site screen printer and how they interacted with customers. I was invited to step back behind the table to see my t-shirt being printed and take pictures. They also offered a "social media' discount if I was going to share the experience online.

Tiny Fish Printing got started in 2014, set up in the City of Rochester and is supportive of the local community. You can follow their posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

They are dedicated to the quality of their products... checking and testing until everything is just right. Add that in with a shirt that is super soft and it makes sense that my Tiny Fish Printing t-shirt from Maker's Faire is one of my favorite!
