Cooking with Red Pack Tomatoes

I was practically relieved when someone from Red Pack Tomatoes contacted me and asked if I wanted to try some of their canned tomatoes. it has been a long winter and I was starting to run out of meal ideas without fresh veggies.

What a treat to open the giant can and find not only canned tomatoes but kitchen goodies and recipes.

I was a little skeptical at first. I ususally can tomatoes from my garden in the summer. Would these be as good? I was really in need of some tomatoes this winter. Since we moved into the new house this year, Aaron had to build a new garden bed and I planted my tomatoes too late. We didn't get a good crop and I didn't get to can any tomatoes.

Red Pack says their mission is “To produce the freshest, best tasting tomato products in the world.” I have to say they are quite good. Aaron picked out a recipe from the Red Pack website for South of the Border Chowder. It turned out so tasty. The tomatoes are full flavored and the chowder was perfect for a cold, rainy March evening. Aaron said when he was warming up the leftovers at the office everyone was asking him what smelled so good. I'll be trying more recipes from the site.

I love a brand with a sense of humor. Red Pack only does tomatoes. If you click on the other veggies that pop up on their site you get funny messages. They don't know anything about beets. Or brussel sprouts.
