South Wedge Holiday Market crafts

Tomorrow Aprille, Tina and I are doing another craft show, this time an outdoor holiday one in the South Wedge.

I have some new wares I will have available... crafted jars.

Some are empty, some have winter scenes and some will be filled with Tina's cookies.

I love the little winter scenes!

After finding mini gourds online, I have also made Gourdon Snowman Christmas Tree ornaments! (they get their noses tonight) We will be in the South Wedge from 10am to 6pm!

Klout Perk: Proxi Products

Here is a review of a product I got as a Klout Perk pretty early on. It was a selection of Proxi products.

I started using the dishwasher tablets right away but had other body washes to finish up before I wanted to open up the Proxi one. There was also toothpaste... but I am dedicated to my current toothpaste, so Aaron used it instead.

As you might have guessed, Proxi products have hydrogen peroxide in them. They make dental, personal and home care products. The hydrogen peroxide helps clean and breaks down to just oxygen and water. Very green and sustainable.

Dishwasher tablets - these work great! Especially considering our dishwasher doesn't work great. There isn't any additional scent which I like. They get the dishes clean and don't leave any weird film or residue.

Body wash - the cucumber and green tea wasn't my favorite scent... I like fruity fragrances for my bath products, but it wasn't bad. What I really liked was how much it frothed up. It almost seemed like the bubbles crackled! Didn't dry out my skin either.

Toothpaste - Aaron reports that it has a fresh taste and left his teeth feeling smooth and clean.

Overall I liked everything I tried and I really like their green and sustainable features!

Apple Pie

I have been hoarding a few apples in my fridge from September for apple pie. Since I didn't get to do any baking for Thanksgivnig as we were traveling, it was time for some #latenightbaking

I used the handmade crust recipe from Martha Stewart Living. It involved a LOT of butter and lot of moving the dough in and out of the fridge. It was totally worth it though. The crust was almost TOO flakey and delicous!

Any excuse to get out the apple-peeler-corer-slicer! I love this uni-tasker!

Pugs and Movember

Hugo, Oscar and Stewie have jumped in and grown moustaches for Movember also!

There are only a few days left of Movember and to help contribute to Aaron's fundraising, the boys have opened a t-shirt shop with shirts featuring them and their moustaches!

Hugo was the first to get his shirt up... check it out here!

Cosmosphere

There are some cool things to check out in Kansas. Aaron's sister & bro in law took us to the Cosmosphere. I've always been a little bit of a space/NASA geek so I was pretty excited to check it out.

I was surprised to discover they had artifacts like the Apollo 13 command module Odyssey.

Cosmonaut Thompson.

*sigh* So cool!

Me and the Liberty Bell 7 Mercury spacecraft

Aaron is a lot taller than the average astronaut!

Airport knitting

Aaron and I are heading to Kansas to spend Thanksgiving with his family. We had a six hour delay and then a four hour delay so we spent a lot of time in the airport. I was happy to be traveling with Aaron, a holiday issue of Martha Stewart Living and my knitting.

I was able to finish one of my wrist warmers by the time we made it to Kansas!

Preserve Toothbrushes

I am a big fan of Preserve toothbrushes. They are made from recycled yogurt cups and you can send them back to be recycled and turned into plastic lumber for use in new picnic tables, park benches, and boardwalks. They started packaging them in wrappers that you can save and ship them right back to Preserve with pre-paid postage.

While I was looking at their site, I found they have a toothbrush subscription program! What a great idea! You are suppose to change your toothbrush every three months and this way, you don't forget! Get a new toothbrush and then ship the old one right back!

I recently spotted some of their kitchen storage containers on store shelves. They are made from 100% recycled #5 plastic and are 100% recyclable!

Sprouts

Gardening season is long gone but there are still things one can grow inside.

We love sprouts on sandwiches, wraps and salads. They are so easy to grow at home. Seems like everytime I start a batch I am then out of town when they are ready to eat!

I got this sprout grower a few years ago... I grows a lot of sprouts!

We have been growin alfafa sprouts, and now I want to do bean sprouts. Wegmans carries lids that will fit on mason jars and a wide variety of sprout seeds.

Ball Automatic Jam and Jelly Maker

I admit it. I love uni-taskers. I was super intrigued by this Ball Automatic Jam and Jelly Maker. Three easy steps to homemade jam! No guess work and jam ready in 30 minutes or less.

It really isn't that hard to make jam or jelly but I do so love kitchen utensils.

Squirrely, squirrely pumpkin eater

I was so pleased my jack-o-lantern was lasting so long. Unlike Aaron's pumpkin which turned to mush in two days, it was solid and had very little mold.

Then squirrels ate it's face off. *shakes fist*

I guess it's my own fault. After our pumpkin carving party, I left the bucket of pumpkin guts out on the porch for a few days and allowed the squirrels to feast on it. Apparently they acquired a taste for pumpkin from this generousity.

The squirrels in our neighborhood are out of control chubby. Look at his wee gut hanging over the edge of the bucket.

Stewie spend untold hours sitting next to the windows watching those squirrels. I know he wanted to get one so badly. How dare they sit on HIS porch. *shakes paw*

Smart Trooper

Our Smart Car had to go to Buffalo for a tune up and we got a white loaner to drive. I think it looks like a Storm Trooper helmet. Awesome.

Furry couch potatoes

The boys have been pouring it on thick. As it gets chillier they get snugglier and more sloth-like.

Regular couch potatoes. This is Oscar's "Draw me like your French ladies" pose.

Stewie parked on the couch watching spreadsheets being worked on with a disaproving stare.

Veterans Day & Charcuterie

For Veterans Day we went to the shooting range, one of Aaron's favorite activities.

I made up a charcuterie board... one of my favorite things. I added in a few new items to my repertoire. Here you will see, in addition to the usual meat and cheese, I have cheddar jalapeno peanuts, dark chocolate drizzled popcorn with sea salt, brie with apple butter and cream cheese with a jar of my grandma's homemade pepper jam.

I looked it up and technically charcuterie is just meat, but I enjoy saying it so I like to refer to the entire snack tray as charcuterie. There is a scene in Modern Family where Jay discovers what charcuterie is “That’s charcuterie? I’ve been avoiding that on menus for years. They’re killing themselves with that name!”

I have thought of dedicating myself to the art of charcuterie. Okay maybe not, but I like the looks of these cookbooks on Amazon.

Chili cookoff success

Tonight was the Genesee Center for Arts and Education Firehouse Chili Cookoff. The entire building smelled like chili which was mouthwatering. There were some delicious chili on hand. I managed to get away to taste a few of them before they ran out. A creamy sweet chicken and a pumpkin chili stand out in my mind.

In a funny twist of irony, my volunteer job for the evening was "tending the bar", which consisted of taking drink tickets and taking off bottle caps. Genesee Brewery generously donated beer for the cookoff so I was popping caps off Dundee Oktoberfest, Genesee (red label), Geneesee Cream Ale and Genny Light all night.

The coolest part of the the chili cookoff, is everyone gets to pick out a handmade ceramic bowl for their chili and take it home. It was so hard to choose! I enjoyed checking out everyone's bowls as they came to the bar and commenting on them. Especially the people that found really big bowls or wee little bowls.

I finally decided on this one.

Aaron actually scored an Andrew Cho bowl! Lucky!
