Rochester Greek Festival

After the Lilac Festival, the next festival I look forward to is the Rochester Greek Festival... primarily for the food. This year I got the traditional gyro plate but also tried Ouzon soda. I was curious because it is anise flavored (licorice). The anise is very light and the soda is refreshing. Plus it's made here in Rochester!

This year they also had dessert, which I don't remember from last year. We went straight for the baklava ice cream. Basically it was vanilla ice cream with honey coated baklava mixed in. So good! Aaron is enjoying his on the coast of Greece as you can clearly witness.

Neon Summer

I feel a neon kick coming on for summer. It's like a flashback to my eighties. I had neon shoelaces, highlighters and rubber bracelets. I love this neon pink nail polish from Essie. I am on the hunt for the perfect neon orange too.

I have been saving this outfit for warm weather. Orange jeans (I didn't think I would jump on the colored jean trend after going through that in the eighties also, but here I am) and a lobster t-shirt. New sandals too. My mom got the same pair so we are matchy-matchy!

Sponsor us for The Fast and The Furriest!

Saturday, June 8, the pugs are lacing up their sneakers and walking with me at The Fast and The Furriest! It is a 5K, 10K, Dog Walk and Pet Festival to benefit the Rochester Animal Services.

Oscar and Hugo want to help the pets that are less fortunate than themselves. RAS helps Rochester City animals by finding them homes, offering a spay/neuter program and educating the public. I am on the board of Verona Street Animal Society, the not-for-profit that works to help RAS and I manage their social media as a volunteer. I can attest to the hard work the volunteers put into helping all the homeless animals. But RAS is always in need... treats, cages, more adoptions, more awareness.

Please sponsor us for the dog walk and help us to raise money for RAS. Any amount, even $5 is a help.

The Oscar, Hugo and I thank you!!!

An ice cream weekend

While we were home we stopped at a childhood favorite... The Igloo. The Igloo is a classic. They serve up rich and creamy frozen custard. My favorite flavor is Grapenut. I've never found it anywhere but in PA. All it consists of is vanilla frozen custard with Grapenut cereal mixed in!

On our way home we stopped at good ole' Lewisburg Freez. Hugo was pretty eager to put his order in for his doggie dish.

I tried a new offering - salted caramel!

Here is just about one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Sometimes we make faces in our ice cream cones. I got the idea to feed the ice cream creature a bite of ice cream. Ice cream cannibalism!

Memorial Day

We stopped by the cemetary while we were home to check on my Granfather's grave. There were flags on all the military member's graves. My grandfather was in WWII. As we looked around we were surprised to find markers from the Civil War and even the Revolutionary War.

I'm so glad someone takes the time to commemorate these service men and women.

Wedding favors/place setting chalkboard signs

My sister asked me to make her place settings/favors for her wedding reception. A crafter's dream come true.

She sent me a link to chalkboard signs and I decided to put my own twist on it by using wood spools for the base.

I was also very, very excited to use my new wood burning tool. Did I mention I was excited?

They were very simple to make. While I was painting all the plaques with chalkboard paint and wood burning the spools, Aaron cut dowel rods to size for me. Then I just used hot glue to attach the rods to the plaques and then pushed the into the spools.

I had a mass productiong going on. About fifty of these puppies.

I think they turned out really cute. Here is mine in action!

My sister's wedding

My sister got married today! (Note she is wearing 3 inch heels!)

I was very pleased with my matchy matchy dress and shoes. Aaron's tie matched my dress too!

I loved her bouquet. That is our Grandfather's pocket watch... "something old".

And my favorite part of weddings... the cake.

Espresso class

Aaron and I went to the espresso class at Joe Bean he got me for my birthday. I started thinking about espresso in a completely new way. There is so much that goes into pulling a perfect shot... size of the grounds, weight of the grounds, tamping, timing...

We don't even have an espresso machine but if we get one I am ready! Until then I will keep on with my Nespresso Pixie. (I can hear our barista instructor gasping)

In more coffee news, I just got us two more Cuppow lids.... in orange!

The new East Ave Wegmans!

I was torn about going to my sister's bridal shower knowing I would miss the grand opening of the new East Ave Wegmans! (kidding!)

Thankfully Aaron had stayed behind for class so he was able to go and scope it out for me. I love the new layout. I don't think there is another Wegmans like it! The rooster that comes out and crows every half hour is my favorite part. And the giant cheese section.

Later this summer the restaurant Amore will open. I can't wait to try that too! Look up in the windows!

Meow Box for Stewie

Poor Stewie has been watching Oscar and Hugo get a Bark Box every month and enjoy treats and toys right in front of him.

Stewie's biggest fan in Canada, Deb, felt bad for him and made him up a very special Meow Box! What a lucky kitty!

Rappelling - 21 Stories for Scouts

21 Stories for Scouts is a very cool fundraising event where people raise $1000 to be able to rappel down the First Federal Plaza Building.

The organization Over the Edge handles the logistics... gear, training and operation of rappelling down 21 stories.

Kodak volunteers to take photos of the rappellers and print them out for each of them. I volunteered to man a Kodak Picture Kiosk where friends and family could print photos they take of their rappellers. I loved watching the friends and family of the folks come down the building print out the photos they took! Everyone was so excited for and proud of their rappellers. They got some fantastic shots!

Since we were helping out I got to go down the building! I was pretty excited! I got all geared up and did the training by walking backward down a stairwell.

The first step is the hardest when you hang over the edge of the top before heading down.

I didn't hesitate. I just got up there and went right down.

I had a video camera on my helmet... I need to upload the video.

I tried to look around and go slow to get good video footage.

I was pretty tired by the time I got to the bottom... my hand was cramping up. It was a blast, but I can't imagine doing more than 21 stories!
