Happy Halloween!

So here is the final picture from the big pumpkin shirt photo shoot.

It's hard to get everyone to look at you when there is so much going on outside.

One more outtake. Happy Halloween everyone!

Glitter and chalkboard pumpkins

I had to come up with Halloween party favors/place settings as good as last year's spooky black pumpkins.

That's where my two newest crafting supply discoveries came in. Glitter blast glitter spray...

... and chalkboard spray!

I got these little plastic pumpkins at The Dollar Tree for a dollar each and then spray painted my little heart out. More on that later. The glitter spray is tricky.

I think they made nice place settings.

And were something cute for the party goers to take home.

Halloween Potluck Dinner

Today I set the table for a Halloween Dinner Party. It always feels a little like Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving when I set the extra long table in my dining room.

This year it was a potluck and we had so many tasty dishes to enjoy in a spooky atmosphere.

And some great costumes!

Me? I pulled my pumpkin costume out of the attic from over ten years ago. I was so relieved it still fit!

I went back on my blog to see if I had a picture of the costume back then. I found the blog post but the image link is broken. Back them I probably had my images hosted on angelfire or something. I have them all on a hard drive somewhere... gotta see what I can do.

Pet of the Week

I don't think you could ask for a cuter paperweight!

Lucy #13420984

Lucy is a 7-year-old female cat with a lovely black and white coat. She was brought to Lollypop Farm because her owner was moving and couldn't take her along. Lucy will be happy to hold down the page for you while you read your newspaper. And, if you're watching television, she'll oblige by plopping down in your lap so that you can pet her. This sweet kitty enjoys attention and will reward you with kisses and a loud purr. Lucy is available in the Seniors-for-Seniors program, so adopters age 60 and older can take Lucy home to cuddle up on the sofa at no charge! Lucy can't wait to meet you. Come and see her today!

Brandy, the dog from last week was adopted!

Pizza Casserole

I tried some new recipes for my pumpkin picking/carving party. These are veggies cups - cups with scoops of dip at the bottom then filled with sticks of veggies. Fun and easy to eat. Unless you are Tina ; )

The highlight was pizza casserole. I made a meat version and a vegetarian version. It's a combo of several recipes I found online. It was a big hit! Several people have already asked for the recipe so here it is.

Pizza Casserole

1 lb box fafalle (bow tie) pasta
1 lb sausage
1 large chopped onion
2 cloves of garlic minced
1 tsp dried oregano
pinch salt
pinch pepper
1 jars spaghetti sauce
1 can pizza sauce
1/2 lb of sliced pepperoni
1 can sliced mushrooms
3 (8oz) bags of shredded mozzarella cheese
1 (8oz) bag shredded parmesan cheese

Boil the pasta and drain. Saute sausage with onion, garlic, oregano, salt & pepper. Layer casserole dish with sauce, pasta, sauce, sausage, cheeses, pasta, mushrooms, sauce, cheeses then pepperoni.

Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.

And of course we had pumpkin pie.

Pumpking Picking & Carving

Today was my annual pumpkin picking and carving party. It was a beautiful, sunny fall day.

Some were more excited than others to find the perfect pumpkin.

Selecting our victims.

The giant bouncing pillow called.

Top Dog and Feline Frenzy

Lots going on at Lollypop Farm!

Brandy #14145247

Meet Brandy, she’s a TOP DOG! October is Adopt-a-Dog Month and our featured "Top Dogs" can be adopted for just $75! Brandy was a stray found in Irondequoit. She is a 4-year-old Pit Bull mix who is just a sweet, shy girl. She is a little timid at first, but after a few treats and some soft talking, she decided going outside might be alright. She is a bit unsure of herself at first, but that subsides quite rapidly, and she turns into a fun loving wiggle butt who loves racing around and chasing balls. Brandy weighs in at 44 pounds, and is a strong dog who could use some work on her leash walking skills. Since we don’t know anything about her previous life, she must meet all the kids and dogs that share your home. It’s important for everyone to get along and be happy! Brandy can’t wait to meet you!

Lollypop Farm is having another cat adopt-a-thon this Thursday: Feline Frenzy Adopt-a-thon Thursday, October 20, 2011

Please come to one of their four adoption locations to meet the wonderful cats and kittens available, or, if you can't add a cat to your family right now, please help us spread the word by telling your friends and family about this amazing deal on cat adoption!

As always, each cat or kitten adoption includes:
Spaying and neutering
Feline leukemia testing
Vaccinations and deworming
A certificate for a free health exam
A 30-day gift of pet health insurance

12 Horse Ale Delivery & Runway on a Runway

There were two very cool events in Rochester last week.

Genesee Brewing brought their classic 12 Horse Ale out of retirement. It was first launched in 1930. To celebrate they deiivered the first orders like they would have back in the 1930's - by horse and wagon!

The horse and wagon delivered 12 Horse Ale in the stubby authentic bottles across town to Dinosaur BBQ! Then they made some deliveries to East Ave.

Then as the finale to Fashion week in Rochester, the new conductor of the RPO led models off of an airplane into an airport hanger at Rochester Airport for the sound of fashion. The RPO played while the models made their way down an actual runway on a runway.

Both events - so creative!

Designer apples

A Honeycrisp at Whittier Fruit Farm

At this time of year I get a little apple crazy. It seemed like none of us could rest until we got to Whittier Farm to pick Honeycrisp.

We are lucky to have Whittier Farm in Rochester - they are a co-op of the University of Minnesota, and they were hand selected to grow the hybrid apples developed by U of M.

What could be so unique about an apple? The Honeycrisp was deleloped with a special characteristic. "This one-of-a-kind apple gets its great eating character from its uniquely oversized cells. While the flesh of other apples cleaves between cells, leaving the cell walls intact, when bitten, Honeycrisp’s extra-large cells burst open, releasing a mouthful of juice." Woah.

SweeTango from Wegmans

Now there is a new designer apple - SweeTango. It's even making the news. The University of Minnesota created it by combining Honeycrisps with Zestar! (the ! is part of the name) I love that the Zestar! is known for..."The side of the fruit facing the sun develops a sweet spot that’s brighter red and wildly flavorful."

SweeTango even has it's own logo. You can't pick SweeTango yet but you can buy them at Whittier and Wegmans.

SnackJack Pumpkins

Last weekend Tina and I made an early trip to the pumpkin patch to get some SnackJack pumpkins. One of the best parts of fall are SnackJack pumpkin seeds. It's hard to describe but SnackJack seeds don't have the thick shells like regular pumpkin seeds.

When you toast SnackJack seeds the entire seed gets crispy and so tasty.

I lucked out at the pumpkin patch when I found a SnackJack pumpkin that was actually two stuck together. I got twice the seeds for the price of one.

I also got some decorative pumpkins to set out side. I like the funky looking ones.

Drying herbs

Frost is coming soon so I cut my herbs so I could dry them for later. I didn't know where to hang them so I used some wire with an old frame to hold them.

It's been awhile since I've painted anything with chalkboard paint so I painted some little jars for my herbs when they are dry. Now to dig up some recipes to use the herbs later on.

Pet of the Week

Don't worry, this Medusa won't turn you to stone when you look at her. When you look at her and her squinty eyes - you will turn to mush.

Medusa #4689334

Medusa is a talkative, social girl who likes to follow her people around. This 5-year-old, 15 pound sweetie is at Lollypop Farm for a third time through no fault of her own. She was found and her owner did not come to claim her. She has lived with small children and cats, and one of her previous owners described her as "easygoing." As easygoing as she is, though, that doesn't extend to dogs! Medusa would prefer a canine-free household, please! This pretty kitty hopes to find a loving forever home soon! Come meet Medusa today -- she'd love to meet you!

Wanita, the dog from last week is still available for adoption.

Rain boot liners

We are having a lot of rainy days. Since it's fall, they are chily rainy days. I love my rain boots but they are not warm. Thanks to a tip from Tina I got a pair of rain boot liners at Marshalls.

They just look like giant fleece socks but they make all the difference.

Fall ride

Tina and I went for a bike ride by the canal after work yesterday.

Great exercise and a nice way to enjoy an autumn evening. Love the leaves crunching under the tires.
