Vintage Charm inspired by Vintage Pyrex

Of all my collections, my most prized is my vintage Pyrex collection. I love all the patterns they released for everyday kitchen use. I do not however, use any of my Pyrex for everyday kitchen use. I can't risk breaking a piece and ruining a complete pattern set. For instance... you should never ever put vintage Pyrex in the dishwasher. It will ruin the finish.

Understanding that, you can imagine how excited I was to find Vintage Charm... glass mixing bowl sets with designs inspired from vintage Pyrex patterns.

Here are each of the new patterns next to a picture from my collection of the pattern that inspired it.

Spot On was inspired by the New Dots pattern from 1967. New Dots was a classic!

Memory Lane was inspired by the 1964 pattern, Terra. Good move on using brighter colors rather than the brown.

Rise and Shine was inspired by Butterprint from the 1950’s. LOVE the turquoise.

Who didn't have at least one piece of Pyrex with the Butterfly Gold pattern of 1971 in their house growing up? It was the inspiration for Golden Days.

Until I looked at the website I wasn't 100% sure which pattern inspired Birds of a Feather. The website says the Friendship pattern from 1972 was the inspiration. They modernized the birds and switched the colors to black and white.

Tickled Pink was inspired by the 1956’s Daisy pattern. I don't see this one as much. Let's just say this one is more of an "interpretation".

I would love to have a set of these that I can actually use in the kitchen and not worry about breaking one. There are versions that come with lids. What a great birthday present! What?! My birthday isn't for two months? (I like the Rise and Shine pattern best - just in case)

Corning Museum of Glass: Pyrex exhibit

As big Pyrex fan and collector, it was practically a requirement for me to visit the Pyrex exhibit at Corning Museum of Glass.

The exhibit featured a timeline of the Pyrex development. It was interesting to see the history accompanied by vintage ads and the products that were featured in them, like this set of Primary Color mixing bowls.

I liked seeing which products were advertised together. And I liked seeing which pieces I have in my own collection. Yup, I have both the Super DeLuxe "UFO" casserole and the Opaque White Casserole featured in this Christmas ad.

Here is Aaron pointing out one of the few patterns I don't have. A bowl called "Eyes".

I pretty much walked past each case pointing "Got it. Got it. Got it." Really Corning Museum should have called me to access my collection for this exhibit. LOL.

If you can't make it to the exhibit, the museum put up a website that shows many of the Pyrex patterns that were sold.

Along the way I stopped to point out some of my favorites. I look crazy. Crazy Pyrex Lady!

Here are a few things I saw on display that I don't have... a Pyrex roaster.

This was pretty much me after the exhibit. Aaron thought that was hilarious.

I did come home with a Pyrex pie plate. One of the 100 year anniversary releases. Oh and dish towel that makes me chuckle when I see it.

 

Celebrating 100 Years of Pyrex

I may not be the biggest Pyrex fan out there but I'm pretty sure I'm in the top ten. My collection is vast enough that it fills a room in our attic. We are talking about 5 shelves worth. I'll share a picture someday - it's sorta like "Woah that is a lot of Pyrex".

Anyhoo, as you can imagine, I was pretty excited about this being the 100th Birthday of Pyrex. I have entered all the sweepstakes and been following the 100 Measuring Cup Tour. I'm a little distressed that I will be on vacation and will miss the tour stop in Corning, NY.

To celebrate 100 years, Pyrex has issued five limited edition bowls with lids. The design echos that of the famous vintage Pryex New Dots mixing bowl design.

Which I have of course... tadah!

There are five different sizes and colors of limited edition measuring cups too. Aaron's mom got me the bowls/lids for my birthday but I don't have the measuring cups.

Or the limited editon 100 year celebration pie plate!

What can I say? I'm a collector!

Birthday Pyrex and Mother's Day

Today is my birthday and my mom got me an amazing surprise. She found a very rare 1974 Moon Deco Pyrex Casserole. It even has the black plate!

She also got me Prez PEZ!

Brown Onion Pyrex

My mom found a bottom half of a brown onion Pyrex casserole. After watching Pyrex Lovers on Flickr for months she spotted Gracie's Pyrex who had an extra lid. I got in touch with Gracie and she was so nice to send me the lid (I paid shipping). Now I have the complete casserole. Pyrex collectors are the best kind of people. : )

New Pyrex Pieces

I've acquired some new Pyrex pieces the past few months that I've been too busy to post. I can't find the pattern name to this blue one and I'm not sure if it is supposed to come with the basket. I'm hoping folks on Flickr will know. This Tulip Casserole is from the mid 1930's. From what I've seen online they are worth a lot, but mine seems to be missing the lid.

Here are two pieces ready for a party. The one on the left was a Christmas promotion - called a Deluxe Buffet Server with Twin Candle Warmer. On the right is something I have really wanted - a chip and dip set! This pattern is called Golden Scroll.

I spotted this Pyrex carafe at the Goodwill store. I don't think it's ever been used. How cool is that giant round cork? One of my best thrift store finds!

New Pyrex

I got a lot of Pyrex for Christmas that i need to take pictures of once we have a nice sunny day. I do have a few pieces that I got before Christmas that I haven't posted yet.

This is one of the coolest Pyrex I have seen. It's a Pyrex Bake A Round. You place the dough inside the glass and the bread bakes inside it.

These dishes say Pyrex France on them. I think they are for baking bread too. That's just my guess.

I love this one. A Pyrex cheese keeper. It has a wood base and handle. Looks like something Wallace and Gromit would use.

Here is an unusual Pyrex casserole. the lid is the entire white section, like a deep dish. I would love to know why it's like that. Maybe so you can eat out of the top?

Fall Pyrex

I have been so busy being out of the country and whatnot I haven't had a chance to post my latest Pyrex acquisitions. I didn't get these all at once. These are about eight months of collecting. People ask me how I get such great pieces. It's my mom! She is so good at spotting them at yard sales and auctions. She rocks. Of course she would pass out if she saw I was actually using some of these. I broke a pitcher this week! :(

These are some of my favorites here. Basically, I love turquoise and anything with a carrier. The cream of the crop is the Corning Glass Works casserole from Greencastle, PA which is very close to my hometown.

I got these vintage Pyrex pitchers and jelly jar glasses too late to use them this summer. Actually the tall set of glasses were sour cream and peanut butter containers. They even still had their lids. 

Next summer you can bet I will be serving up lemonade and ice tea in them though.

My mom and I were busy little bees at this summer's yardsales and flea markets. These are pictures of all the Pyrex either my mom or I found for my collection. Keep in mind I don't pay over $10 and I am quite sure my mom doesn't either. 

I know what you are thinking... where do I keep all these? I have shelves in my basement for them... but even I am coming to the realization that I might have a problem on my hands soon. I need to start limiting myself to only my favorite finds. It's hard though when you find a mint condition Early American pattern 1.5 Qt Divided Cinderella Oval Casserole for only $3!!!

Thank goodness for the Pyrex Files and Pyrex Love... these sites help me identify all the patterns!

The last time my parent visited they brought me a cute wood cupboard they got at an auction. I moved all my little knickknacks and dishes over into it and placed some of my favorite vintage Pyrex pieces in the vacated glass cupboard (actually a greenhouse from Ikea)

Mmmm yeah... I got a lotta little dishes.

I found these Pyrex Butterfly gold salt and pepper shakers last winter at an antique shop. They match my Pyrex butter dish. Now I am afraid to use any of them for fear of breaking up the set

Here are a few more goodies I got at the yard sale yesterday. 

Three vintage cookbooks ($1 each) and a small vintage Pyrex frying pan with removable handle ($4!). 

I am so pleased with myself.

Tina, Shruti and I went to a ginormous neighborhood yard sale today. I hit the jackpot with a Pyrex Pink Gooseberry Cinderella Large Mixing Bowl, a Pyrex 1.5 Qt Divided Cinderella Oval Casserole, a vintage aluminum cake carrier, and a gravy boat.

I really needed a gravy boat. 

I really didn't need another cake carrier. Hah.

My mom gave me some more Pyrex collectables when I was home for Easter. My newest additions are...

I got some more vintage Pyrex dishes for Christmas presents. Turquoise Butterprint mixing bowl and refrigerator set, serving bowl with matching dishes and a small Daisy baking dish. I love the turquoise... it looks so nice with my pink Pyrex. The daisy dish is nice too... sunny and bright.

I really need a corner cabinet to keep all my collection on display. Right now I am rotating them so they all get some display time.
